ST. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION POLICY INSTRUCTION ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND SECONDARY Evaluation of the Instructional Program The evaluation of the instructional program is essentially the process of determining to what extent the adopted goals and educational objectives of the Board of Education are actually being realized. It is the function of all attempts at evaluation to afford a basis for rational action in identifying strengths and weaknesses of the educational program and recommending ways to improve and change it. Evaluation, consequently, has a powerful influence upon decision-making at various stages of planning, organization, and implementation. The Board of Education recognizes its responsibility for the continual evaluation of the curriculum, the educational program, and instructional processes. It shall be the policy of the board to develop and integrate internal systems for planning, curriculum improvement, and the evaluation of learning and teaching. The board acknowledges its responsibility for practices and requirements as may be designated by the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education or stipulated as a condition for accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Policy adopted: June 26, 1990 Revised: December 07, 1999 R6180 The Board of Education, the superintendent, associate superintendents, or the deputy superintendent may authorize the organization of advisory committees, task forces or special units from among the teachers or community to study, analyze, or evaluate current practices or innovations that may contribute to the modification or improvement of instruction.
