Evaluating the Curricular Program in Relation to the Community

The distinctive characteristics and needs of the school community should be known and recognized by the Board of Education and school personnel. The school and community share a mutual concern for the removal of those constraints that limit the educational program. The board shall, therefore, encourage and support community-based initiatives that will contribute to the extension of school-community alliances.

In developing various aspects of the overall school program, information should be accessed that will reflect population and family stability, the employment status of parents, available community services, and cooperative arrangements for human resource development. The board shall establish channels of communication within the community in order to stimulate interest and support for the solution of problems that affect the progress and well-being of the students.

Policy adopted: June 26, 1990

Revised: December 07, 1999
