ST. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION POLICY
INSTRUCTION
ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND SECONDARY
Evaluation of the Instructional Program
Evaluating Student Performance

The Board of Education assumes responsibility for providing the most effective arrangements of teaching-learning situations that may assure the best possible student progress. It encourages teachers to use their knowledge of child growth and development, learning modalities, differentiated instruction, and other approaches that move the child in the direction of achieving specific objectives.

The board strongly supports the use of a variety of ways of evaluation. While the primary purpose for such evaluative methods is to assess the relationship between student achievement and the board's goals, the board recognizes that other potentially valuable information may be obtained, including but not limited to the following:

The suitability of a school’s instructional program for the community.

To provide data for advanced planning.

To better understand the relationship between administrative regulations and school needs.

To guide parents or guardians, teachers, students and others in gauging progress.
