ST. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION POLICY
INSTRUCTION
ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND SECONDARY
Evaluation of the Instructional Program
Curriculum Evaluation
The Board of Education recognizes that the primary purpose of curriculum evaluation is to give direction for future planning; to continue favorable practices; or to modify less desirable aspects of the existing program.

The evaluation of the curriculum takes place as the growth and progress of student development is measured using accepted criteria. Teacher expectancy, class standards, local regional or national norms, and past individual performance may be used as a basis for judging student progress.

Since the curriculum consists of multiple learning experiences, it must be evaluated from data that describe the quality of its product, the validity or intent of its design and the variety and use of instructional materials.

The board shall therefore devise mechanisms to establish practical and useful patterns of program evaluation that examine the results and by-products of the educational program.

changing trends and approaches to learning and teaching;
date of copyright of texts and/or significant supplementary materials;
newly formed alternative, magnet, vocational, or specialized schools or programs.

Provisions shall be made for the revision of curricula for exceptional students in cooperation with the appropriate professional staff and advisory groups.

Adherence to guidelines will be required as a condition of continued participation in federally-financed programs.
