Career Education
The Board of Education recognizes that career education is a developmental process designed to help students prepare for life roles in the family, the community, and careers. The board also recognizes that the development of career education enables students of all ages to examine attitudes, interests, aptitudes, abilities, motivational needs, and self-concepts and to relate them to career opportunities. This education will guide them to make valid decisions regarding further education and future endeavors.

Therefore, the Board of Education shall provide career education to all students at all grade levels. Career education in the elementary schools shall focus on instruction in self-awareness and career awareness. The middle school shall continue the elementary focus with special emphasis on positive role modeling, personal development, and the exploration of career and educational opportunities that relate to the academic skills.

The Board of Education shall develop an individual planning system for each student beginning no later than eighth grade. This system should include all the necessary forms and procedures needed to develop educational and career plans. The guidance and counseling services should provide assistance to students in collaboration with parents or guardians and should include an assessment, advisement, and identification of short and long-range goals. At the secondary level, career education shall also incorporate college exploration, career guidance, job seeking and keeping, vocational training opportunities, experiential school-to-work programs, and personal planning.
