Individual and Remedial Services -- Health Services Drugs, Tobacco, Alcohol

The use of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol may have a detrimental effect on the health and welfare of students. The use of those substances, may become habit forming and reduce the individual's ability to perform satisfactorily in school and cause physical injury to self and others.

A program of health education dealing with the abuse of such substances, shall be part of appropriate subjects and courses from kindergarten through 12th grade. This program will provide students with information regarding physical, mental, and social aspects of the use and abuse of substances.

Instruction Services

Individual and Remedial Services -- Health Services - Drugs, Tobacco, Alcohol

A program of health instruction dealing with substance abuse shall be conducted as follows:

In grades K-5 as part of the science/health curriculum, with instruction under the direction of the classroom teacher;

In grades 6-8 as part of the science/health and home economics curricula, with instruction under the direction of the classroom teacher or subject matter teacher;

In grades 9-12 as part of secondary courses in science, health, and home economics with instruction under the direction of the subject matter teachers.

Curriculum guides in the designated areas will contain objectives relating to substance-abuse education. Appropriate instructional materials will be given to teachers.
