Emergencies -- Civil Disturbance

A riot, unauthorized mass trespassing on school district property, life-threatening activity by a person(s) within or near an office or school building, or other civil disturbance, shall be considered a disaster situation. The superintendent grants administrators discretionary authority to request the arrest and prosecution of trespassers and peace disturbers.

In cases of civil disturbance, administrators will notify his/her immediate supervisor, the superintendent's office, and the security office immediately and will withhold the ringing of school bells for student passing or school dismissal. A special signal should be used which will notify teachers to lock classroom doors, custodians to begin checking and locking doors to all vacant rooms, and teachers without a class to report to the office or to preassigned stations.

Inquiries from the media shall be channeled through the office of public affairs.
