ST. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION POLICY The Board of Education shall annually approve and adopt a calendar for the ensuing school year. The calendar shall specify the opening date and shall provide a minimum school year of 174 days and 1,044 hours of actual student attendance. The Board of Education shall modify and/or adjust the calendar during the year if needed. School may be dismissed by the board in order that teachers may attend meetings e.g., the state teachers meetings in alternate years when they occur in St. Louis and teacher training. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULATION During the second semester of each school year, the superintendent shall recommend to the Board of Education for its approval a school calendar as specified by state law. The calendar shall provide for legal holidays, teacher training, parent conference days, record keeping days for elementary and middle schools, winter and spring breaks, and state teacher's meetings in alternate years. The school calendar may be altered due to unusual circumstances such as heavy snow, extreme icing, or major curtailment of transportation. When conditions such as these occur, the superintendent shall recommend to the Board of Education the closing of schools and/or offices.
