Student Immunization

The Board of Education recognizes that it is unlawful for any student to attend school unless he or she has been immunized as required by state law and can provide satisfactory evidence of such immunization. The board, however, recognizes that a student may continue to attend school even if all immunizations have not been completed, as long as the immunization process is being accomplished-in the manner prescribed by the ACIP/Missouri Department of Health. Student immunization and immunization records will be required as set forth in board policies and regulations.

R5141.3
ST. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULATION
STUDENTS
ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, AND SECONDARY
Welfare
Student Immunization

A parent or guardian may object to their child's required immunizations because of religious beliefs or a medical contraindication. These objections must be submitted to the school in writing and an exemption based on a medical
condition must be accompanied with a statement from a duly licensed physician.

The board charges the superintendent with the duty to prepare a record showing the immunization status of every child enrolled in or attending school. The superintendent shall report the name of any parent or guardian who neglects or refuses to permit a nonexempt child to be immunized against diseases as required by state law to the state department of health.

Immunization records pertaining to the immunization status of students may be disclosed without a parent's or guardian's written release, to the following, who need to know such information to ensure compliance with state statutes or to achieve age-appropriate immunization status for children:

1. Employees of public agencies, departments, and political subdivisions,

2. Health records staff of school districts and child care facilities;

3. Persons other than public employees who are entrusted with the regular care of those under the care and custody of a state agency including, but not limited to, operators of day care facilities, group homes, residential care facilities and adoptive or foster parents; and
4. Health care professionals.
