Graduation -- Secondary School Classification

Based on the classification system below, students who are expected to graduate after June 1992 will be, required to earn 22 units of credit for graduation.

Freshman 0 - 5.4 units (5.4)
Sophomore 5.5 - 10.9 units (5.5)
Juniors 11.0 - 16.4 units (5.5)
Senior 16.5 - 22.0 units (5.6)

Secondary School Graduation Requirements

Listed below are the requirements for earning a high school diploma in the St. Louis Public Schools. Freshmen starting in September 1999 must attain the requirements in parenthesis.

English 4
Mathematics 3 (4)
Science 3 (4)
Social Studies 3
Fine Arts 1
Practical Arts 1
Physical Education 1
Elective 3 (4)

TOTAL 22
Graduation shall be contingent upon:

1. Earning the minimum number of units (22).

2. Earning sufficient units in required subject areas as specified by the Board of Education.

3. Taking all tests as may be required by the board and the state department of education.

4. Meeting all residency requirements as may be required by the board, including completing at least one full semester at the school scheduled to issue the diploma during the final year of study.
