ST. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION POLICY ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND SECONDARY Attendance School Attendance Areas The St. Louis Board of Education shall establish attendance areas for schools. Students shall be assigned to schools primarily based on their residence in a particular school attendance area. Exceptions are made to ensure that students have access to specific programs as necessary to comply with the Desegregation Settlement Agreement, or as otherwise required by law. School attendance areas shall be drawn so that the Board of Education
can make the most efficient use of school buildings and provide maximum

LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULATION ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND SECONDARY Attendance School Attendance Areas The planning division is responsible for the drawing of school attendance areas. At the direction of the superintendent, the planning division shall review and reconfigure the school attendance areas annually in order to make the most efficient use of school buildings, and to provide maximum convenience to students and parents. This process shall be coordinated with the appropriate secondary, middle and elementary education office and the transportation division. The school attendance areas are based on the projected size of the student population, their age, school building capacity, pupil-teacher ratios, and the number and location of available school buildings. A separate school attendance matrix shall be designed and maintained by the planning division for special education students. Regulation approved: June 26, 1990 Revised: December 07, 1999 |
