Attendance Records -- Maintaining Student Records

The maintenance of student records in the St. Louis Public Schools shall be consistent with the "Policy on Privacy of Student Records" of the St. Louis Board of Education.

It shall be the responsibility of the principal to see that all student records in the school are maintained in a careful and accurate manner and that procedures are established within the school to protect the privacy and security of such records.

To ensure that all student records shall be uniform and intelligible, each elementary and middle school teacher is directed to keep in the attendance record binder a copy of the appropriate form, "Directions for Keeping Records," and to follow the instructions given therein. In elementary and middle schools the principal shall be responsible for following the procedure.

Each secondary teacher shall have on file a copy of the data processing procedure manual for student records in the teacher's attendance record binder, and shall follow instructions given therein. The principal or his/her representative shall be responsible for following the procedure.

Schedules and directives regarding grades, enrollment, and attendance are also issued periodically by the superintendent, or designee, and are to be kept and followed by all teachers and administrators.
