Suspension and Expulsion

Students enrolled in St. Louis Public Schools are required to obey the law and school rules at all times. Such obedience is a minimum prerequisite for using the educational opportunities made available by the school system.

School staff shall use professional services to counsel and work with students whose conduct does not comply with school rules.

Students will be suspended or expelled as provided in Board Policies, Regulations, and the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. However, any student who is determined to have brought a weapon to a school, including but not limited to, the school playground or the school parking lot, brought a weapon on a school bus, or brought a weapon to a school activity whether on or off of the school property, shall be suspended or expelled for a period of not less than one (1) year and referred to the appropriate authorities for prosecution, except that:

1. the superintendent may modify this expulsion requirement for a student on a case-by-case basis; and

2. this requirement shall not prevent the board from providing educational services in an alternative setting to a student suspended under the provisions of this section.

As used herein, a weapon shall mean a weapon as defined by Board Regulation 5131.6.9.
