STUDENTS
ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND SECONDARY
Attendance

Admission -- Original Entries From Other Schools

Within two business days of enrolling any student, including any special education student, the principal will request the records described hereunder for each category, and, for all students, will request discipline records from schools previously attended by the student within the last twelve months.

A. Elementary and Middle

If a student applies for admission as an original entry to an elementary or middle school after having attended another St. Louis Public School, records will be requested as follows.

1. The principal shall request the student's cumulative record card, health record card, and other appropriate attendance and instructional records from the school that the student formerly attended, the office of special education, and/or the record room.

2. The principal also shall request records from schools attended outside the St. Louis Public Schools.

B. Secondary

1. Applicants From Other Classified Public or Non-Public Schools

Each applicant for admission to the 9th grade from classified schools other than St. Louis Public Schools (public and non-public) must present evidence of readiness for high school by bringing a valid certificate of completion of the equivalent of a program of elementary studies (8th grade) signed by the administrator of a school classified by a state department of education. Before admission, the student is required to take those tests prescribed for admission by the Board of Education.

2. From St. Louis Public High Schools

If a student applies for admission as an original entry after having attended another St. Louis Public High School, the principal shall normally require the student to secure the appropriate form from the former school to verify that the student is eligible to change schools. (See Regulation R5119.1.) The principal will then request from the previous school or the record room, the cumulative record card, health record card, and such other records that are available for attendance, and instruction.

3. From Other Accredited High Schools

If an applicant for admission has previously attended grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 in a high school accredited by the state department of education or a regional accrediting association, the principal will request an official transcript of the high school record.

4. From a Non-accredited High School

If a student applies for admission after having attended a high school which is not accredited by the state department of education or any regional accrediting association, the principal shall request an official transcript of the student's records. He/she will forward recommendations to the assistant superintendent for site support/instructional and leadership regarding the applicant's high school enrollment classification and allowable units of credit. The high school principal may recommend the administration or waiving of any tests required by the system associated with the determined classification.

5. Twelfth Grade Students

Students coming from schools other than St. Louis Public Schools must be enrolled in the high school from which they are to be graduated at least twenty (20) weeks immediately before graduation to qualify for a diploma, unless they formerly earned credits in a St. Louis Public High School. Subsequent attendance in summer school or evening classes in St. Louis Public High Schools will be applicable to the fulfillment of this requirement.
