ST. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION POLICY
STUDENTS
ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND SECONDARY
Attendance

Attendance and Excuses

Regular attendance is essential if students are to receive the full benefits of the St. Louis Public School District's program. Staff will follow state statutes, Board of Education policies, regulations, and administrative guidelines to admit students and supervise their attendance.

The St. Louis Public School's policy on student attendance is rooted in both the state statutes and the state juvenile codes, but it is extended by a body of educational research and pedagogy that suggests the need for regular and punctual attendance on the part of students to ensure the maximum attainment of educational achievement.

The policy of the St. Louis Public Schools mandates that every student enrolled shall attend school every day and be punctual. School personnel shall exercise prudent judgment to assure that the policy is fully implemented. Additionally, when appropriate, the staff shall seek the support of resources, agencies, and persons outside the school system to assist in implementation of this policy.

Policy adopted: June 26, 1990

Revised: December 07, 1999
