Employment Contracts – Certificated

PROBATIONARY CONTRACTS - The first five complete years of employment of all teachers entering employment with the St. Louis public schools shall be deemed a period of probation during which period all appointments of teachers shall expire at the end of each school year.

*All probationary teachers shall receive written notice of tender of contract on an annual basis and shall within 15 days of receipt present to the Human Resource Officer a written acceptance or rejection of the employment.

Failure of a teacher to present the acceptance within the specified time shall constitute a rejection of the board's offer.

During the month of March of each year, the superintendent of schools shall recommend to the Board of Education the employment or non-retention of probationary teachers. If it is determined by the board that a probationary teacher's contract shall not be renewed, the probationary, teacher shall be notified on or before April 15.

PERMANENT CONTRACTS - Upon completion of a satisfactory probationary period, appointments of teachers shall become permanent.

Upon attainment of tenure a written notice of tender of a permanent contract shall be presented to the employee. The employee shall, within 15 days of receipt, present to the Human Resource Officer a written rejection or acceptance of

the employment tendered by the board. Failure of a teacher to submit the acceptance within the specified time shall constitute a rejection of the board's offer.
