State Laws Applicable to Employees

Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate Required - Certificated

No person shall be employed to teach in any position in the St. Louis public schools until he/she has received a valid certificate of license entitling him/her to teach in that position or where proof of eligibility for certification only has been obtained in writing from the State Department of Education or a National Council of Accreditation-Teacher Education approved school. Where proof of eligibility only has been provided, the employee shall furnish to the Division of Human Resources within 45 days of employment, the official Missouri teaching certificate or be subject to disciplinary action including dismissal.

It shall be the responsibility of any employee holding a certificate requiring periodic renewal to obtain the required, specified training prior to the expiration date of the certificate. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action against the employee, including dismissal.
