Vacancies

Certification of Qualified Applicants

For each vacant position which utilizes a ranked eligibility list, the Division of Human Resources shall certify to the department head the names of three available applicants who ranked the highest in their overall rating, together with their examination scores.

In the event that there are not a total of three eligible applicants who have applied for a position, the Division of Human Resources shall certify to the department head the names of the one or two eligible applicants.

For other vacant positions, the Division of Human Resources will provide the department head with the names of all qualified applicants. Appointment

Following the oral interview, the department head or his/her representative shall advise the Division of Human Resources of their recommended selection, if any, and provide rating sheets for each applicant interviewed. The rating sheet shall include a statement to support their decision related to the selection or non-selection of the applicants.

In the event that the recommended applicants refuse to accept the appointment or none of the named persons from the eligibility list are acceptable to the department head, the Division of Human Resources shall certify the next names on the eligibility list.

Whenever there are no acceptable applicants, the Division of Human Resources shall promptly re-advertise the vacancy and follow procedures outlined in the board policies and regulations.

No recommendation for appointment shall be made for a position unless procedures specified herein have been followed.

All appointments of personnel shall be recommended by the superintendent of schools to the Board of Education for approval.

The Superintendent or his designee may appoint employees to serve on an interim basis in any position for which they are qualified until such time as an individual is selected to fill such vacancy on a permanent basis.

Availability of Records

All applications and credentials shall be maintained by the Division of Human Resources and shall be made available to the department head or his/her representative when deemed warranted.

Members of the Board of Education shall not be used as personal references.
