ST. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION POLICY

BUSINESS AND NON-INSTRUCTIONAL OPERATIONS
NON-INSTRUCTIONAL OPERATIONS
Transportation: Video Monitoring

The Board of Education shall implement a video monitoring program on school buses utilized by the district for student transportation to and from school and school related activities. The purpose of this program is to deter student misbehavior and improve safety. This program will be implemented on a random basis so that neither students or the bus driver are aware of the video camera.

The director of transportation or designee shall supervise the video monitoring program in school buses including the placement of cameras on school buses and the use of videotapes by school administrators. Videotapes may be used by principals or school security officials for review of a specific behavioral incident. The transportation office shall maintain a log of video tapes that have been checked out by administrators.

All tapes used in the video monitoring program are the property of the St. Louis Public School District. Videotapes involving specific instances will be kept in the principal's office of the student's school only until the issue is resolved. When there is a recommendation for an extended suspension of bus privileges, the tape will be secured in the office of associate superintendent for site support/instructional and leadership. All other tapes will be reused on a regular basis.
