Use of School Facilities

Use of High School Athletic Facilities -- Approval of Office of School Security and Safety Required

All applications for the use of high school field houses, athletic fields, and gymnasiums, shall, after approval of the principal, be sent to the office of school security and safety for approval. That office shall promptly forward such applications to the commissioner of buildings, grounds, and property management for final approval and processing. Applicants should be reminded that all applications must be received by the commissioner of buildings, grounds, and property management at least seven working days prior to the first scheduled use. All applications must be submitted in sufficient time to meet this requirement.

A. Procedures

All applications for the use of school premises must be made to the principal or administrator in charge of the school to be used. All applications must be made on Form IN-20, Application for the Use of School Premises.

No meeting, performance, use, or activity shall be scheduled on school premises without the knowledge and approval of the building principal or administrator in charge. All applicants must first discuss the use of the school facilities with the principal or administrator in charge prior to organizing any meeting or activity.

All applications, after approval by the principal or administrator in charge, must be approved by the commissioner of buildings, grounds, and property management and received in his office at least seven school days prior to the first date for which the facility is requested.


Application forms may be obtained from the principal or administrator in charge and must be completed and returned to the principal or administrator in charge for their signature of approval. The signature of the principal or administrator in charge certifies that the space is available and that they have investigated the conditions outlined in the application and recommend approval of the use of the facility by the applicant.

B. Cancellation of Scheduled Use

Notice of cancellation of schedule use of school facilities must be received at least seven school days in advance of the meeting to be cancelled. Should the organization wishing to cancel a permit fail to submit proper notification within that time limit, the organization may be denied the future use of school facilities.
