Contests for Students Outside organizations wishing to conduct contests for students must obtain the permission of the superintendent of schools, the appropriate assistant superintendent, or the associate superintendent for site support/instructional and leadership in order to maintain that the contest will enhance the curriculum. The contest must be consistent with the broad purposes of education, with benefits to many rather than just a few.

Contests for Students Outside organizations sponsoring contests for students must specify in writing the purpose(s) of the contest as one basis for approval or rejection. The contest should show potential for good citizenship, high moral standards, and intellectual competence. Contests should be educationally sound, worthy, timely, and stimulating for student and school. Suitability of contests will be determined by the following criteria: 1. The activity should be appropriate for the age group. 2. The contest should be free from the kind of interests, pressures, or restrictions that inhibit the free and full development of children, teachers, and other participants. 3. The subject of the contest must not be commercial, controversial, sectarian, or concerned with propaganda. 4. The contest must be well planned to allow for effective administration and for adequate and objective evaluation. 5. No one may be excluded from a contest because of color, race, creed, or disability. 6. Neither students nor school should be required to pay an entry fee or buy materials to participate. 7. The organization sponsoring the contest must be engaged in a creditable
