ST. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION POLICY

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

PARTICIPATION BY THE PUBLIC

Community Advisory Committees

The Board of Education appoints committees, including those required by state or federal regulation, to study specific issues and problems, to provide advice and counsel to the board, and to facilitate communication between the board and its constituents.

The Board of Education encourages the formation of community advisory committees at every level whenever possible. Community involvement is sought to bring outside expertise to the decision-making process, to benefit from citizens experiences in many areas, and to enlist the support and cooperation of the community.

The superintendent of schools shall inform the board of the establishment of community advisory committees. He/she shall describe their proposed functions, size, term of office, membership composition, and relationship to members of the professional staff. The board will also be informed of the persons appointed to such committees, and of any changes of committee membership or function, and a final report of accomplishment.

From time to time, the superintendent of schools will provide the board with a report and appraisal summarizing the status of the work of such committees.

The office of community outreach shall provide assistance, resources, and lists in this endeavor and assists with the formation of these advisory committees. These committees/task forces represent the civic, political, religious, educational, and business communities.
