ST. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULATION

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

COMMUNICATION WITH THE PUBLIC

Responsibilities of School Personnel
Superintendent and Other Administrators

Each principal has the responsibility for preventing the disruption of school activities and the educational program. The principal has the discretion to decide whether media representatives should be admitted into the school building, consistent with the following provisions:

1. At all times, arrangements for admission of media representatives into a school building shall be made with the school principal. This should be done through the office of public information and the appropriate associate superintendent. It is understood that interviews with students shall require parental permission. The principal, however, may make a judgment concerning interviews if parents cannot be reached.

2. At times when the principal feels that circumstances are such that he/she cannot allow members of the media into the building, he/she shall so inform them and tell them at what time he/she or another appropriate administrator will be available to meet them.

3. Schools should contact the office of public information as soon as possible so that a school staff-member may be authorized to provide information to the media.
