ST. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION POLICY

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

COMMUNICATION WITH THE PUBLIC

Board of Education Meetings

The board, as a representative body of the district, wishes to provide an avenue for any citizen to express his or her interest in and concerns for the schools. Accordingly, the public is cordially invited to attend any and all sessions of the board and raise issues of concern before the meeting begins.

Meetings of the board are conducted for the purpose of carrying on the business of the schools, and therefore are not public meetings, but meetings held in public. The public may attend but may not participate.

Meetings are closed to the public only during executive sessions for the purposes enumerated in B9355 or as otherwise provided by law.

It shall be the policy of the Board of Education that all programs will be accessible to individuals with disabilities as required by the law.

ST. LOUIS BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULATION

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

COMMUNICATION WITH THE PUBLIC

Board of Education Meetings

In order that the board may fairly and adequately discharge its overall responsibility, citizens who wish to make requests or proposals to the board are requested to direct these to the secretary of the board, who will deal with them according to rules adopted by the board. Citizens with communication disabilities who wish to speak should notify the secretary of the board so that appropriate auxiliary aids and services can be provided. The intent of the rules is as follows:

1. To allow everyone a fair and adequate hearing.

2. To allow the superintendent of schools to take direct action, or to recommend action to the board, when policies have already been established by the board.

Citizens may also sign up to speak before the board meeting actually begins for a period of five minutes. All speakers will receive a written response at a later date.

Matters concerning an individual school shall be discussed first with the principal of that school.
