Notification of Meetings to the Public and to Members

The general public shall be given written notice of the date, time, and place of each meeting of the board, and its tentative agenda, in a manner reasonably calculated to advise the public of matters to be considered, as well as of standing and ad hoc committees, at least 24 hours in advance, exclusive of weekends and holidays when the Board of Education is closed, except in instances of emergencies. The president of the board, the superintendent of schools or the board's attorney shall determine when emergencies exist that require meetings to be called with less than 24 hours notice.

If the meeting will be conducted by telephone or other electronic means, the notice of the meeting shall identify the mode by which the meeting will be conducted and the designated location where the public may observe and attend the meeting. If the Board plans to meet by internet chat, internet message board, or other computer link, it shall post a notice of the meeting on its website in addition to its principal office and shall notify the public how to access the meeting.

Members of the board shall be provided with written notice of meetings in accordance with Board Bylaw B9353. In the case of an emergency, board members will give their oral or written waiver of the written notice referred to in Board Bylaw B9353 prior to conducting any business. An oral waiver shall be reduced to writing and duly recorded as soon as possible thereafter.

Notice to the public shall include posting in an area of access to the public at the Administration Building. Notice of meetings of the board shall also be made available on a regular basis to any representative of the news media who has requested notice of such meetings concurrent with the notice being made available to members of the board.
